Setting up your website template: (always backup your files before you edit them) Step 1: EDIT HEADER: Open the "logo.txt" file and change "Your Website Title" to match your name or company name. Be sure not to delete the "logo=". This will change the Flash logo on all pages. If you wish to use a graphic or text logo, there are instructions later in this document. Open the "header.js" and edit the "SHORT SLOGAN OR PHRASE GOES HERE..." line with your own phrase, or delete the current phrase. Step 2: EDIT COPYRIGHT: Open the "copyright.js" file and change the "Your Company" and "info@yourdomain.com" lines to match your information. This will change the lower page info on all pages. Step 3: EDIT CONTACT INFO: Open the "contact.js" file and change the company name, address, phone number and e-mail address. This will change contact info on the "contact" and "about" pages. Step 4: EDIT THE CONTACT FORM: If you are setup with an AllWebCo hosting account. Go to your control panel at "http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail" and install the free script "Formail" then edit the contact page and replace "your-domain.com" with your domain. There is a thank you page included. If you are not set up with AllWebCo hosting or do not have "Formail" installed. You can either setup the contact form to use another contact script, install "Formail" on your server or you can remove the contact form from the pages between the comment tags. If you wish to change the sizes of the form elements you can open the "corporatestyle.css" in Notepad or any text editor and change the ".shadeform" ".textarea" and ".dropdown" width numbers. Step 5: EDIT PAGES: Change the text on all pages to match your information. You can use a text editor like notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text. You will find notes inside each page to help you navigate. Look for the "START MAIN CONTENT TABLE" section. If you are using a wysiwyg type HTML editor like Frontpage or Dreamweaver, you will not see the header or footer because they are .js include files. The site was created this way for the global editing. Step 6: REPLACE THE GRAPHICS: in the "picts" directory. Replace the 9 "Fgallery" pictures with full size photos. Replace the 9 "thumbnail-gallery" pictures with your thumbnails. The thumbnails are now 100 x 70 pixels but you can make them any size that you prefer. Replace the 9 "Order" pictures with full size photos. Replace the 9 "Thumb-order" pictures with your thumbnails. The thumbnails are now 100 x 70 pixels but you can make them any size that you prefer. Replace the icon.jpg with any picture that you prefer. It's best to use a 125px x 75px picture. Replace the "main.jpg", "contact.jpg", "about.jpg", "gallery.jpg", "links.jpg", "testimonials.jpg" and "order.jpg" with your own pictures. These pictures should remain 125px x 200px. Replace the "product.jpg" (on the front page) with your own picture. This picture can be any size that you would like, however it's best not to exceed 450 pixels in width. Step 7: EDIT PAGE TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS: Open each of the pages and change the page titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords to match your product or service. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the " " so you don't disturb the html code. Keywords are very important so your site will get a good listing at google or msn and other search engines. Step 8: PAYPAL SETUP SETTING UP PRODUCTS FOR PURCHASING: You can have your order buttons link to paypal so visitors can purchase your items. Forms have been created on the "order.htm" page so it's easier to setup. It will not create a shopping cart, however visitors will be able to purchase a single product at a time from you. STEP 1: Set up a paypal business account and get the HTML code you need to setup purchases from your site. You will need the info between the "<form>" and "</form>" tags from paypal. There are 9 order forms on the order page. One for each item. You will only need one form code from Paypal and then you can edit the other forms with your "item_name", "business", "amount" and other hidden values. Be sure to do a test order from your page after you edit it. Step 9: UPLOAD: Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software like CuteFTP or Coffee Cup (free) or your control panel. Be sure to make a directory called picts on your server and put the pictures into that directory. On AllWebCo servers you should load the pages into the "www" directory. Options: USING A GRAPHIC LOGO: You can replace the Flash logo with a graphic logo. To do this, delete or rename the "header.js", then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js". In the picts directory you will find a graphic called "logo.gif". Edit this graphic with your logo. It's best to keep the graphic the same size that it is now unless you edit the image size numbers in the new "header.js". USING A TEXT LOGO: You can replace the Flash logo with a text one. To do this, delete or rename the header.js, then rename the "text_header.js" to "header.js". Open the now named header.js and replace the "YOUR WEBSITE TITLE" and "YOUR COMPANY SLOGAN GOES HERE..." lines. FONTS: You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "corporatestyle.css" with a text editor. You can find other font colors by clicking here. You can also change the font sizes in the "corporatestyle.css" file. Change the "FONT" px size to change the copy on all pages. Change the "title" px size to change all the title sizes. CHANGING LINKS / ADDING TO THE MENU: You can change the names of the links like "about" or "testimonials" to other page names by editing the "menu-2.js". Only change the one instance of the name and not the name with the ".htm" after it. Whatever you change in the menu-2.js will change every page on the website. Keep the names short so the menu does not get too wide. You can always add links on the page itself if your site gets larger. You can also add more pages by copying one link in the menu-2.js and pasting it right below the next. Be sure to back up your file before you edit them. There are instructions in the "menu-2.js" for adding links. You can also change the link names "HOME" and "CONTACT" in the "menu-1.js" but there is not too much room for adding links. ADDING MORE ORDER PAGES AND GALLERIES: You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or to the menu-2.js. There are notes in the gallery.htm and order.htm pages to help you copy and paste to add more pictures and more galleries. PAGE SPACER: The page-spacer.js tells all the webpages how tall to be. You can edit the "HEIGHT=450" to make your match better at the bottom. You'll need to experiment with the sizes. NOTES ON THE PICTURES: There are 63 pictures total in the "picts" directory and you will most likely need to edit 40 of them. Be sure to back up your files. | |
